DOO DAH PARADE

2011

Why March for Freedom of Speech, through humor?

'Cause We Can!

Be a "Cause" at

The 28th Annual

Doo Dah Parade

Monday, July 4, 2011

(Rain Date July 4, 1999)

It's an UnReal Parade

Celebrate Liberty & Lunacy, 'Cause you can! at The 28th Annual Doo Dah Parade on Monday, July 4th 2011 at 1:00 p.m.  No Entry Fee!  Just Show Up!  All politicians must wear a funny hat, no commercialized entries, no full nudity and no water balloons.  Other than that, let the humor rip!
Less-Than-Grand Marshal:  Lesley James of CD101 (102.5FM).  WWJD?  What will Lesley James Do?  Will she show up?  Or, will she be a no-show?  Tradition has it that the Less-Than-Grand Marshal usually does not to show up.  That was until Bob Nunnally discovered in 2000 that it was actually fun!
Political figure head's may roll, mother's milk may spray, and stupid things may happen, and we hope that you are there to be a part of it all!
Parade Route:  (Line-up on heading North on Park Street) Head West on Buttles Avenue to North on Neil Avenue to East on Second Avenue to South on High Street to Russell Avenue where it all falls apart.  Bring a lawn chair or blanket, water, sunscreen, and seriously - let the dog stay at home.
If the parade was good for you, come on over to the Doo Dah Parade's "Afterglow" block party on Buttles Avenue between High Street & Park Street for Food, Beer, Fun and FREE live music from 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
MUSIC MARTYRS FOR DOO DAH - 2011 Band Line-Up:

6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Whoa Nellie!
Doo Dah thanks ALL of bands for performing for YOU for FREE!  Also thank you to Kurt Monnier of Listening Lamp for assisting with getting bands, and Doug Gouty for being Stage Manager for the day!

Do you have a "Cause" worth marching for?  If so, then The 28th Annual Doo Dah Parade is the perfect place for you to be a Martyr - in a funny way.  It's satirical humor at its worst best.

All politicians must wear a funny hat.  No full nudity.  And, no water guns or balloons please.

Can you believe it?  Still after all of these years, there is still no entry fee or registration required!  Why?  Because the Money Martyrs are paying for your enjoyment.  (Please take a minute and browse their web links in the right hand column).  You can be a Money Martyr too by clicking on the "Donate" button.

More silly details to come!

A little Negativity:  The Three Sins of Doo Dah:

1.  All Politicians must wear a funny hat!  Why?  'Cause we don't care about
Politicians.  We'd rather make fun of them.  That's Doo Dah for ya.  You're
in America Baby!  You know, where Freedom rings.  Freedom of Speech, though
humor is what Doo Dah is all about.   No funny hat...No marchie-marchie.

2.  No Commercialized entrees in the parade.  Why?  'Cause we don't care
that Company XYZ was in the Doo Dah Parade.  We care about what you have to
say.  So, don't come and be all commercialized and ready to march....'Cause
you won't, unless you have a message that's humorous.  And, no stupid
business banners either.

3.  No water balloons and super soakers and the likes.  Why?  'Cause, ask
the guy who's jaw was broken by one, just ask the guy who's windshield was
smashed by one, just ask the artist who's words become nothing but ink
blots.  How about putting drinking water stations out for the marchers
instead?  That would be novel.

Does this all sound serious?  Yes.  And that's just about all we're serious
about.  With the except that we are serious about YOU having FUN on July
4th, 2011!  Why is this humor thing so important?  Well, heck.  Don't we
have enough seriousness throughout the year?  Can't we take one guilt free
day and celebrate with some fun and laughter?  Laughter is not illegal in
the U.S.A!

Celebrate Liberty & Lunacy at the 28th Annual Doo Dah Parade on Monday July
4th, 2011 at 1:00 p.m.  Line-up @ Noon.  AfterGlow Party & Live Music at
High & Buttles from 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.  It's all FREE! (except for the
Beer & Food)

Doo Dah! Doo Dah!  Sing this song.  It might just put a smile on your face
and a pep in your step.

Remember:  No Entry Fee!  Just Show Up!

don't worry, we'll have cups for those who don't.

I want to say thank you.   Thank you to everyone who was outrageous enough to march in the 27th Annual Doo Dah Parade.  Entries were ravenously funny.  Thank you to those who watched it, mocked it, loved it, and even hated it (particularly the person in the Dispatch’s commentsof “Doo Dah Holds Nothing Sacred” article who said “…the out of touch burn outs that organize the thing haven't had their pulse on the community in years”). Thank you for all the fun comments and photos.  I can't wait to sit down and look over all the pics and reply to all the comments.

The question as to "who won?".  The answer is everyone won.  The best bribes winner was the Wilber Hills Country Club..  The worst entry was the Hummer with the hummer crap ads.

General consensus is that this was best Doo Dah Parade in History, and most definitely the longest with most entries.  You guys rock!  I stood on the back seat of a golf-cart and looked down Park Street from Buttles to Goodale (even wrapped around the corner) and from curb to curb and saw it was packed with entrants.  I almost fell off the cart!

We've gotten all the trash picked up and inventory put away (with the exceptions of the golf-carts and the junk on my front porch).  I now might try to get some sleep.  Before I do, I want to also thank all of the DisOrganizers, the Contributors, the Vendors, the Logo/Poster/T-Shirt/Banner Designers and Creators, the City of Columbus & CPD, the Media, the Photographers, The Neighbors & Neighborhoods, the Bands, Stage & Sound folks, those who Marched and those Watched, and everyone who lent a hand to Doo Dah 2010 as a Volunteer (especially the Clean-up Crew), and most importantly those who have fought for our Freedom and our Freedom of Speech.  I'm a bit blown away by it all.  I think I'll go have a mini-emotional breakdown.  Ah, that’s no fun.  But, I do need some sleep.

I truly believe the Columbus History Books will show that on July 4th, 2010, that there was an contagious outbreak of Doo Dah Fever.

Photo links coming up soon.

I love ya man!

HEALTH WARNING ISSUED TO RESIDENTS OF CENTRAL OHIO!!!

A severe case of Doo Dah Fever is expected to break out on Sunday July 4th, 2010 at 1:00 p.m.  The source of the fever is in the Short North Arts District.  Warning!  Doo Dah Fever is known to be extremely contagious and highly infectious!!  Symptoms range from delirious smiles and laughter to stomach pains from mockery and satire.  Doo Dah Fever has even caused respected and disrespected Politicians to loose their mind and wear funny hats and march in the Doo Dah Parade!

There is no known Rx for cure.  It is best to quarantine yourself at the 27th Annual Doo Dah Parade with others who have also caught the Doo Dah Fever!  Dr. Doo Dah’s advice is to carry a funny sign and march IN the Doo Dah Parade.

Line-up is at noon.  There is no entry fee (i.e., free office visit).  Everyone is invited to march, with no pre-registration requirements.

What?  Are we sick?  Yes!!  We have Doo Dah Fever Baby!!  Catch it!!
